It was Valentine's Day morning, and snow fell softly outside the school windows. Inside the classroom, red and pink paper hearts hung from the ceiling. Jars of glitter sparkled on every tiny table. Blinky Sparx sat at a table covered in craft supplies, feeling happy and buzzy inside.
"Today is the day I make valentines for everyone I love!" said Blinky Sparx. Blinky pulled out a long, long list. It had names of friends, family, and even the class hamster. "Mom, Dad, Grandma, my teacher, my friends..." The list went on and on and on!
Blinky started making the first card. Cut, cut, cut. Fold, fold, fold. Glue and glitter everywhere! Blinky drew a big heart and wrote "I love you" inside. "This one is for Mom," Blinky said proudly. It was beautiful, but it had taken a very long time.
Blinky looked at the clock on the wall. Then Blinky looked at the long, long list. "Oh no," said Blinky. "I have so many names, but not enough time!" Blinky's LED eyes blinked fast. That meant Blinky was worried. Very, very worried.
"What if my cards are not fancy enough?" Blinky said quietly. "What if I cannot finish them all?" Blinky's hands began to shake, and a little piece of glitter fell off the table. Sometimes when we feel worried, it helps to stop and take a deep breath.
Just then, a classmate came over and sat down next to Blinky. "Why do you look so sad?" the classmate asked. "I want to make a perfect card for everyone," said Blinky. "But there are too many names and not enough time. I do not know what to do!"
The classmate smiled warmly. "A valentine does not have to be perfect, Blinky. It just has to come from the heart!" The classmate held up a simple card with a crayon sun on it. "See? I drew this for my grandpa. It is not fancy, but he will love it because I made it with love."
Blinky thought about that. "So I do not need lots of glitter?" "Nope!" said the classmate. "You can draw a quick picture or write kind words. When something feels too big, you can break it into smaller parts. That makes it easier!" Blinky's eyes began to glow brighter. That meant Blinky had an idea!
"Let's work as a team!" said Blinky. "I will draw little hearts, and you can write the kind words!" "Great idea!" said the classmate. They got to work, side by side. Draw, draw, draw. Write, write, write. Together, they were fast!
Some cards had tiny hearts. Some had smiley faces. Some just said "You are special" in big, wobbly letters. None of them were fancy, but every single one was full of love. "We did it!" cheered Blinky. The whole stack was done!
Blinky gave out the valentines one by one. Every friend smiled. The teacher smiled. Even the class hamster got a tiny card taped to its cage! "Thank you, Blinky!" everyone said. Blinky felt warm inside, like a little light glowing in the snow.
On the way home, Blinky looked out the window at the falling snow. "Valentine's Day is wonderful," Blinky said softly. "But I do not have to wait for one special day. I can show love every single day—with a kind word, a drawing, or even just a smile." And Blinky could not wait to start tomorrow.
