King Doodle Bum lived in a cozy, colorful kingdom. He wore a golden crown and a long purple robe. He loved chocolate more than anything — well, almost anything. His best friend was a snowman named Frostyline Fable. Every morning, they walked together through the royal garden, past bright flowers, tall sunflowers, and soft green hills.
In the middle of the garden stood a very special old oak tree. It was the biggest tree in all the kingdom. Its trunk was wide and brown, and its branches stretched out like open arms. Everyone loved the old oak tree. King Doodle Bum and Frostyline Fable loved it most of all.
Frostyline Fable loved to explore, and the old oak tree was her favorite place. She would sit under its shade and look up at the leaves. "This tree is magic," she would say. "It has been here longer than anyone can remember!" King Doodle Bum would nod and eat a piece of chocolate under its branches.
But one morning, something was different. King Doodle Bum walked into the garden and stopped. The old oak tree had no leaves. Its branches were bare and still. The bark was dry and gray. The tree had died. The big, beautiful oak tree was gone.
King Doodle Bum sat on the ground by the tree. He did not eat his chocolate. He did not smile. He just sat there and felt a big, heavy sadness in his chest. "It is not fair," he said quietly. "I loved this tree." A tear rolled down his cheek, and that was okay.
Frostyline Fable came and sat next to him. She was sad too. "I will miss the shade," she said softly. "I will miss how the leaves danced in the wind." They sat together for a long time. They did not try to feel better right away. Sometimes, just sitting with a friend is enough.
"Do you remember," said Frostyline Fable, "when we had a picnic under the tree and you dropped chocolate on your crown?" King Doodle Bum laughed a little. "Do you remember when a bird built a nest in the top branch, and we watched the baby birds learn to fly?" Talking about their memories made the sadness feel a little lighter.
"I think," said King Doodle Bum, "it is okay to be sad and happy at the same time. I am sad the tree is gone. But I am happy we had so many good days with it." Frostyline Fable nodded. "When we talk about how we feel, it helps. We do not have to keep it all inside."
Soon, friends from all around the kingdom came to the garden. They brought flowers and kind words. A friendly gardener brought something very special — a tiny oak sapling in a small clay pot. Its leaves were bright green and new. "This little tree grew from an acorn that fell from the old oak," said the friendly gardener. "A part of it lives on."
King Doodle Bum and Frostyline Fable dug a hole right next to where the old oak had stood. They placed the tiny oak sapling in the soft earth. Frostyline Fable patted the soil gently. King Doodle Bum poured water from the sparkling stream. "Grow tall," he whispered. "Grow strong."
That night, Frostyline Fable looked up at the stars. "Do you think the old tree knows we planted a new one?" she asked. King Doodle Bum smiled softly. "I think love does not go away," he said. "It grows into something new. Just like a tiny seed becomes a tall tree."
The next morning, the sun came up warm and bright. The tiny oak sapling stood in the garden, small but alive. Its green leaves caught the light. King Doodle Bum sat beside it and ate a piece of chocolate. He still missed the old oak tree, and he knew he always would. But his heart had room — room for missing, room for remembering, and room for watching something new begin to grow.
