This is Diego! Diego loves soccer. He loves to kick, kick, kick his bright red soccer ball. The sun is warm. The grass is green. What a happy day!
Diego runs fast! He kicks the bright red ball. He scores a goal! "Gooooal!" shouts Diego. He does a happy dance, all by himself.
Diego kicks again. He runs again. He scores again! But no one claps. No one cheers. Diego looks around. He is all alone. Hmm.
Then—oh no! Diego kicks the bright red ball too hard. It rolls far, far away. It rolls past the big shady tree. Where did it go? Diego cannot find it.
Diego sits down in the grass. His lip wobbles. He feels sad. Playing alone is not so fun now. "I want my ball," says Diego. A little tear rolls down his cheek.
But look! Here comes Mama! She sits down close and wraps Diego in a big, warm hug. "I am here," says Mama. "I love you." Diego feels safe. Hugs help when you are sad.
Then—woof, woof! A playful little brown puppy with floppy ears runs up. The puppy found the bright red ball! The puppy licks Diego's face. Slurp! Diego laughs and laughs.
Now Diego's friends come running! "Can we play too?" they ask. Diego looks at Mama. Mama smiles. "Pass the ball, Diego. Love grows when you share it."
Diego kicks the bright red ball to a friend. The friend kicks it back! Kick, kick, kick! Back and forth. They laugh and cheer. "Gooooal!" everyone shouts together. So much fun!
Diego holds his friend's hand. He gives Mama a hug. He pats the playful little brown puppy with floppy ears. "I love you," says Diego. And do you know what? They all say it back!
Love is like a soccer ball. It is best when you pass it to someone else! A hug. A smile. A kind word. "I love you." Can you say it too?
Now the stars come out. Diego sits with Mama under the big shady tree. The little brown puppy sleeps in his lap. Diego's heart feels full and warm. He looks up at the twinkly sky. "Mama," he whispers, "who will I share love with tomorrow?"
