Zibloo loved stars more than anything in the whole galaxy. He loved big stars, small stars, and even the tiny ones that blinked far, far away. Today was a special day. Zibloo and his best friend were going to the Star Snack Shop on the biggest space station in the sky!
"Look at all the treats!" said Zibloo. "I want a Star Pop! No, a Nebula Swirl! No, a Comet Crunch!" His friend Blinky Sparx smiled. "They all look yummy," she said. "Let's get in line and wait our turn."
But the line was SO long. There were tall aliens, round aliens, and fuzzy aliens. They all waited quietly. Zibloo bounced on his feet. He wiggled his antennae. He just could not stand still. "This is taking forever!" he groaned.
Zibloo had an idea. A not-so-good idea. He zipped past a tall purple alien. He squeezed around a round blue alien. He cut right to the front of the line! "Hey!" said the tall purple alien. "We were here first!"
"I just want my snack!" said Zibloo. He did not listen. He tried to order, but the shop worker shook her head. "You need to wait in line like everyone else," she said kindly. Zibloo stomped back to his spot.
Zibloo waited for one minute. Then he could not wait anymore. He pushed past the aliens again. This time, he bumped into a very small alien. The small alien's puzzle book fell on the floor. "Oh," said the small alien in a quiet, sad voice. "You knocked my book down."
The small alien's eyes got watery. Zibloo felt a lump in his tummy. He did not mean to be mean. He just wanted his snack so badly. But now someone was sad because of him. That did not feel good at all.
Blinky Sparx walked over. She picked up the puzzle book and handed it back to the small alien. "Here you go," she said with a smile. "Are you okay?" The small alien nodded. "Thank you," it whispered. Blinky Sparx turned to Zibloo. "When we push and cut in line, we show others that we don't care about them. But we DO care, right?"
Zibloo's antennae drooped. "I do care," he said softly. He looked at the small alien. "I am sorry I bumped you and knocked your book down. That was not nice." The small alien smiled a tiny smile. "It's okay," it said. "Waiting is hard sometimes."
"I have a trick for waiting," said Blinky Sparx. "First, take a deep breath. In... and out. Then find something fun to do!" She held up a little puzzle. "Want to try?" Zibloo took a deep breath in and let it out slowly. He felt a little calmer already. Then he looked at the puzzle. It had stars on it! "Yes, please!" he said.
Zibloo and Blinky Sparx worked on the star puzzle together. They matched pieces and giggled. The small alien helped too. Before Zibloo knew it, the line had moved all the way up! "Next!" called the shop worker. Zibloo gasped. "That was fast!" he said. Blinky Sparx winked. "Time goes faster when you are kind and busy."
Zibloo ordered a Star Pop for himself, a Nebula Swirl for Blinky Sparx, and a Comet Crunch for his new small friend. They sat by the big window and watched the stars glow. "You know what?" said Zibloo, licking his Star Pop. "Waiting was not so bad. And I made a new friend." He looked out at the swirling nebulas and smiled. Tomorrow there would be more lines, more waiting, and more chances to be kind. And Zibloo could not wait for that—well, actually, now he could.
