Kai loved the ocean more than anything in the whole wide world. He lived in a cozy beach house with sun-kissed windows and sandy paths that led right to the bright blue sea. Every morning, he wanted to run to the waves and surf.
But Kai's mornings were always a mess. He would jump out of bed and look for his things. "Where are my shorts?" he would say. "Where is my other shoe?" His room was piled high with clothes, toys, and sandy towels.
He would rush to brush his teeth, but he could not find the toothpaste. He would rush to eat, but there was no time to sit down. He would rush out the door with his surfboard and a half-eaten banana. "I'm late again!" Kai would say every single day.
By the time Kai got to the beach, the best waves were already gone. His friends were already riding the big, beautiful waves. Kai sat on the sand and watched. "I wish I could get here on time," he said with a sigh.
That night, Kai sat in his room and thought hard. "There must be a way to make mornings easier," he said. He grabbed a big piece of paper and some colorful markers. He began to make a plan. A morning plan!
Kai wrote four steps on his morning plan. Step one: BRUSH. Step two: DRESS. Step three: EAT. Step four: GO! He drew pictures next to each step—a toothbrush, a sun shirt, a bowl of fruit, and a surfboard. "This is going to work!" he said with a big grin.
The next morning, Kai woke up and looked at his morning plan on the wall. Step one: BRUSH! He walked to the sink. He brushed his teeth up and down, up and down. He washed his face with cool water. "Step one, done!" Kai said.
Step two: DRESS! Kai had set out his clothes the night before—his favorite blue sun shirt and his orange swim shorts. He put them on, one piece at a time. No rushing. No looking under piles. "Step two, done!" Kai said.
Step three: EAT! Kai sat at the kitchen table and ate a big bowl of sliced bananas and strawberries. He drank a tall glass of orange juice. He did not rush. He chewed every bite. "Step three, done!" Kai said, feeling strong and ready.
Step four: GO! Kai grabbed his surfboard and walked out the door. He was not rushing. He was not late. The sandy path felt warm under his feet. The ocean was sparkling. The big, beautiful waves were still rolling in. "Step four, done!" Kai cheered.
Kai ran into the water and paddled out. He caught the first wave of the morning! It was big and smooth and perfect. He rode it all the way to the shore. "That was the best wave ever!" he shouted. His friends cheered from the beach.
From that day on, Kai followed his morning plan every single day. Brush, dress, eat, and go! His mornings were smooth. His mornings were happy. And he always had time to catch the perfect wave. "A good plan makes a great day!" Kai said with a smile.
