Kai lived in a bright beach town by the sparkling blue ocean. He loved to surf, swim, and play in the sand all day long. The sun was warm, the sky was big, and the waves were just right.
Every morning, Kai grabbed his surfboard and ran to the beach. He rode the waves up and down, up and down. "This is the best!" Kai shouted as the water splashed around him.
One day, Kai sat on his skateboard to rest. He looked down at the wheels. They were round — perfectly round. "Hey, those are circles!" said Kai. The circles rolled and rolled across the boardwalk. Circles help things spin and move!
Kai looked out at the ocean. Sailboats floated on the water. Their sails came to a point at the top — just like triangles! "Triangles!" said Kai. "They are everywhere!" Triangles are shapes with three sides and three points.
Then Kai turned around and looked at the buildings along the boardwalk. The windows were squares. The doors were rectangles. The buildings stacked up high with strong, flat sides. "Squares and rectangles!" said Kai. "Shapes are all around me!"
Kai had a big idea. "I will build the biggest, coolest sandcastle on the beach!" he said. He ran to the sand and started to dig. He piled the sand up high, higher, and higher.
But then — WHOMP! The sandcastle fell down. Kai tried again. He piled the sand up high. WHOMP! It fell down again. "Oh no!" said Kai. "Why won't my castle stay up?"
Kai thought and thought. Then he remembered the shapes! The buildings on the boardwalk had strong, square bases. "That's it!" said Kai. "I need to use shapes to make my castle strong!"
Two friends from the beach came to help. "Let's build it together!" they said. Kai showed them his plan. "We need square blocks for the base, triangles for the towers, and circles for the windows!"
They packed the sand into strong square blocks for the base. They shaped pointy triangles for the tops of the towers. They pressed round circles into the walls for windows. The shapes fit together perfectly!
The sandcastle stood tall and strong! It had square walls, triangle towers, and round windows. It was the biggest, coolest sandcastle on the whole beach. "We did it!" cheered Kai. "Shapes made it strong!"
That night, Kai looked at the moon. It was a big, glowing circle in the sky. He smiled. Shapes weren't just in books. They were in wheels and sails and buildings. They were in sandcastles and waves and even the moon. Shapes were everywhere — and Kai would never stop looking for them.
