Jamal loved quiet afternoons. He loved his cozy reading nook with soft pillows, a warm blanket, and a tall bookshelf full of colorful books. He also loved chess. Chess made him think. Books made him dream.
One afternoon, Jamal looked up at his bookshelf. Something was different. A book he had never seen before sat on the very top shelf. It was glowing! A soft, golden light danced around its edges.
Jamal climbed up and pulled the book down carefully. It was heavy and warm in his hands. The cover shimmered like starlight. "I wonder what is inside," Jamal whispered. He sat on his soft pillows, took a deep breath, and opened the glowing book.
Whoooosh! The room began to change. The walls melted away. Water swirled all around him — blue and sparkling. Jamal was under the ocean! Colorful fish swam past his nose. A friendly sea turtle waved a flipper at him.
"This is amazing!" said Jamal. He could breathe. He could swim. The fish were all different colors — red, yellow, blue, and even purple! Jamal read the words on the page: "The ocean is full of life you have never seen." And it was true!
Jamal turned the page. Whoooosh! The water disappeared. Now he was standing in a green jungle! Tall trees reached high above him. Vines hung down like ropes. The air was warm and buzzing with sounds.
"Hello there!" said a bright red parrot from a branch above. "Welcome to the jungle!" Jamal laughed. A talking bird! "Can all birds talk here?" he asked. "In this book, anything is possible!" the parrot squawked.
Jamal turned the page again. Whoooosh! The jungle faded away. Now he was floating in a sky full of stars! They sparkled and shimmered all around him. Jamal reached out his hand and touched one. It was warm, like a tiny sun.
"Each star is a story," Jamal read from the glowing page. "And each story is a world waiting to be explored." Jamal smiled. He had seen an ocean, a jungle, and now a sky of stars. He could not wait to see what came next. He turned to the last page.
But the last page was blank. There were no words. There were no pictures. Just an empty, white page. Jamal felt stuck. He felt sad. "Where is the ending?" he asked. "What happened to the story?" The stars around him began to dim.
Jamal sat very still. He thought hard, just like he did when he played chess. Then he understood! The blank page was not broken. It was waiting — waiting for him! Jamal closed his eyes and imagined his own world. He saw a mountain made of books, a river of ink, and a sky full of floating words. The page began to glow again!
The glowing book shimmered one last time. Then it became still. Jamal opened his eyes and hugged the book close. He understood now. Reading is not just about the words on the page. It is about the worlds you create inside your mind. And Jamal's world was just beginning.
