Hana loved to dance. Every morning, she would spin and twirl across the bright kitchen floor. Her bare feet went tap, tap, tap on the cheerful tiles. The warm sun came through the big windows and made everything glow.
"Hana," said Mama, "I have some big kid jobs for you today. Do you think you can help me?" Hana stopped dancing. She looked at the droopy plants on the windowsill. She looked at the cat's empty bowl. She looked at her toys scattered all over the floor.
"I don't know, Mama," said Hana. "That is a lot of jobs." Mama knelt down and smiled. "You can do one job at a time," she said. "And you can do them your way." Hana thought about that. Her way? She knew just what to do!
First, the plants! Hana picked up the green watering can. It was heavy, but she held on tight. She spun to the left. She spun to the right. Spin, spin, pour! She gave each droopy plant a nice, long drink of water.
But then — oh no! Hana spun too fast, and water splashed right onto the floor. A big puddle spread across the tiles. "Oh no," whispered Hana. "I made a mess." Her eyes got wide, and her tummy felt funny.
Hana took a deep breath. She put down the watering can and grabbed a towel. Wipe, wipe, wipe! She cleaned up every drop all by herself. "I did it!" said Hana. She felt brave and strong. Messes can be fixed!
Next, the cat! Hana twirled over to the cat bowl. She scooped food into it — scoop, scoop, scoop! The cat came running with a happy little meow. "Here you go!" said Hana. "Time to eat!"
The cat crunched and munched. Then it rubbed its soft head against Hana's leg. Purr, purr, purr. "You are welcome, kitty," giggled Hana. Taking care of someone felt really, really good.
Now for the last big kid job — the toys! Hana looked at all the toys on the living room floor. There were blocks, a doll, some crayons, and a bouncy ball. "That is a lot of toys," she said. But she had an idea.
Hana made a game! She hopped like a bunny to each toy. Hop, hop, pick up! Hop, hop, drop in the basket! One by one, the toys went in. The blocks, the doll, the crayons, and the bouncy ball. "All done!" she cheered.
Mama walked in and looked around. The plants stood tall and green. The cat purred in a sunny spot. The toys were neat in their basket. "Hana!" said Mama. "You did all your big kid jobs!" She gave Hana a big, warm hug. "I am so proud of you."
Hana smiled the biggest smile. She felt big. She felt brave. She learned that taking care of little things can make you feel wonderful inside. And then? Hana danced her very best kitchen dance yet! Spin, twirl, tap, tap, tap! What a great day.
