It was free time in Priya's classroom. Sunshine streamed through the big windows. Shelves were lined with jars of crayons, stacks of picture books, and bins of colorful word blocks. A soft rug with rainbow stripes sat in the middle of the room. Priya loved puzzles more than anything, and today she was looking for something new to solve.
Priya walked over to the low table. Piles of word blocks were spread out like a jumbled puzzle waiting to be solved. The blocks were red, blue, yellow, and green. Each one had a word printed on it in white letters. "What can I build with these?" Priya wondered.
Priya picked up a small blue block. It said "I" in big white letters. She held it up and smiled. "This is me!" she said. "I wonder what comes next." She looked at all the blocks on the table. So many words! It was like a puzzle, and Priya loved puzzles.
Priya found a yellow block that said "can." She set it next to "I." Then she found a green block that said "run." She placed it at the end. "I… can… run!" Priya read out loud. Click, click, click—the blocks snapped together like a little train of words.
Then something magical happened! The three blocks began to glow with a soft, sparkly light. Tiny little legs popped out from under the word blocks, and they ran right across the table! "Look at that!" Priya laughed. "My sentence came to life! The words are running—just like the sentence says!"
Priya was so excited. She wanted to build another sentence! She picked up a red block that said "The," a yellow block that said "sun," a green block that said "is," and a blue block that said "big." She lined them up carefully. "The… sun… is… big!" she read.
The blocks began to glow again! This time, a warm, friendly little sun floated up from the blocks. It was round and golden with a happy, smiling face. It rose up and lit the whole room with a cozy glow. "Wow!" said Priya. "When I put the right words together, magic happens!"
Priya wanted to try an even longer sentence. She grabbed blocks as fast as she could. She set them down in a line: "Big… the… is… sun." She waited. But nothing happened. The blocks did not glow. They wobbled, tumbled, and scattered across the floor! "Oh no! That does not make sense!" Priya said.
Priya took a deep breath. "I can fix this," she said. "I just need to think." She picked up the blocks one by one. She thought about which word should come first. "The" comes first. Then "sun." Then "is." Then "big." She placed each block with care. "The… sun… is… big!"
The blocks snapped together and began to glow once more! The friendly little sun floated up again, smiling and spinning. Priya clapped her hands. "I did it!" she cheered. "When the words are in the right order, the sentence makes sense!" She felt brave, bright, and proud.
Priya's classmates saw the magic and hurried over. "How did you do that?" asked a classmate. "Can you show us?" asked another. "Yes!" said Priya. "You pick the words and put them in order. One block at a time!" She helped each friend build their very own sentence. Block by block, the room filled with glowing words and happy smiles.
By the end of free time, the whole table was covered in glowing sentences. Priya looked at all the words her friends had built and smiled. She had learned something wonderful. Putting the right words together—one block at a time—can build meaning, magic, and confidence. And that was the best puzzle of all.
