Mateo standing proudly in his sunny neighborhood yard, holding up a small stick bridge he has built, smiling widely. He is surrounded by a few colorful block towers and a little sand castle on the ground nearby. In the background, a bright sunny neighborhood with colorful houses and tall green trees lining a winding path.

Mateo loved to build things with his hands. He built towers out of blocks. He built castles out of sand. He built bridges out of sticks. "I can build anything!" said Mateo with a big, happy smile.

Mateo walking happily down the winding path, his arms swinging at his sides, looking around with wonder at butterflies fluttering near colorful flowers along the path. In the background, tall green trees line the winding path, leading toward the sparkling pond where ducks swim and a colorful playground is visible.

Every day, Mateo walked down the winding path to his favorite park. The path was lined with tall green trees. Butterflies danced over the flowers. Ducks swam in the sparkling pond. "This is the best place in the whole world!" said Mateo.

Mateo standing still on the winding path, looking down with a sad and worried expression. Litter—old plastic bottles and crumpled paper—is scattered on the ground around drooping, wilting flowers. In the background, the sparkling pond looks murky and dull, and the colorful playground sits under a slightly hazy sky.

But one morning, something was different. Mateo stopped and looked around. Old bottles and crumpled paper were on the ground. The flowers were drooping and sad. The pond looked murky, which means it was cloudy and hard to see through. "Oh no," whispered Mateo. "What happened to my park?"

Mateo sitting on a wooden park bench near the pond's edge, chin resting in his hands, looking at a small green frog sitting on a lily pad in the murky pond. In the background, the little garden with wilting flowers and scattered litter on the ground near the winding path.

Mateo sat on a bench and felt his heart sink. A little frog hopped onto a lily pad in the pond and looked right at him. "Even the frogs look sad," said Mateo. He wanted to help, but the mess was so big. What could one kid do?

Mateo standing up from the bench, talking to the friendly neighbor, a kind woman in a big straw sun hat holding a green watering can. They face each other near the pond. In the background, the little garden with wilting flowers and the winding path lined with tall green trees.

Just then, a friendly neighbor who worked in the garden came over. She wore a big sun hat and carried a watering can. "What's wrong, Mateo?" she asked. "The park is a mess," said Mateo. "I want to fix it, but I don't know how." The friendly neighbor smiled. "You can start small! Have you heard of recycling?"

The friendly neighbor in her big straw sun hat kneeling down and holding up an old plastic bottle to show Mateo, who stands beside her looking amazed and curious. A blue recycling bin is nearby. In the background, the colorful playground and tall green trees under a bright sunny sky.

"Recycling means turning old things into new things," said the friendly neighbor. She picked up an old plastic bottle from the ground. "This bottle can be recycled. It gets cleaned up and made into something brand new!" "Wow!" said Mateo. "So the bottle doesn't have to be trash?" "That's right!" she said. "We put bottles, cans, and paper in a special recycling bin."

Mateo happily tossing a plastic bottle into the blue recycling bin, grinning with excitement. A small pile of cans and crumpled paper sits beside him, ready to be recycled. In the background, the winding path lined with tall green trees and the colorful playground, the ground noticeably cleaner.

Mateo got right to work! He picked up bottles, cans, and old paper. One by one, he put them into the blue recycling bin. Pick up, drop in. Pick up, drop in. Pick up, drop in! "This is like a game!" laughed Mateo. Soon, the ground looked much cleaner.

Mateo holding up a small wooden plank and some wood scraps, his eyes wide with excitement, standing next to the friendly neighbor in her big straw sun hat, who is smiling and gesturing encouragingly. In the background, the winding path and the little garden with flowers starting to look a bit brighter.

Mateo found some wood scraps and an old plank near the path. "These are just junk," he said. The friendly neighbor shook her head. "Not junk! You can reuse them. Reusing means using old things in a new way instead of throwing them away." Mateo's eyes got wide. "I know! I can build something!"

Mateo standing on his tiptoes, reaching up to hang the bright, colorfully painted birdhouse on a low branch of a tall green tree. A small brown bird is flying toward the birdhouse. In the background, the sparkling pond with ducks swimming and the colorful playground under a sunny sky.

Mateo used the wood scraps to build a little birdhouse! He hammered and stacked and shaped the pieces. He even painted it with bright colors. "A birdhouse made from reused wood!" said Mateo proudly. He hung it on a tree branch, and soon a little bird flew right in. "Welcome home, bird!" cheered Mateo.

Mateo kneeling in the little garden, patting soft soil over freshly planted seeds with both hands. The friendly neighbor in her big straw sun hat stands beside him, holding her green watering can and smiling down at him. In the background, the winding path lined with tall green trees and butterflies beginning to flutter nearby.

"There is one more thing we can do," said the friendly neighbor. She held out a handful of tiny seeds. "We can plant new flowers! When we take care of the Earth, the Earth takes care of us." Mateo dug small holes in the soft dirt. He dropped in the seeds, one by one. Pat, pat, pat—he covered them gently with soil.

Mateo standing in the little garden, arms stretched wide with joy, surrounded by blooming red, yellow, and purple flowers. Butterflies dance around him. A green frog hops on a lily pad in the sparkling pond nearby. In the background, the colorful playground, the winding path lined with tall green trees, and ducks swimming in the sparkling pond.

Days went by, and something wonderful happened. Little green sprouts poked up through the dirt! The flowers grew tall and bright—red, yellow, and purple. Butterflies came back to dance. The frogs hopped happily on their lily pads. The pond sparkled again in the warm sun. "We did it!" said Mateo. "The park is beautiful again!"

Mateo leaning on his windowsill, gazing up at a starry night sky with a peaceful, contented smile. A small model of the colorfully painted birdhouse sits on the windowsill beside him. In the background, a dark blue starry sky with a crescent moon glowing softly above the silhouettes of neighborhood rooftops and tall green trees.

That night, Mateo looked out his window at the stars. He thought about his day. He recycled old bottles. He reused scraps to build a birdhouse. He planted seeds that grew into flowers. "Even small hands can do big things," said Mateo softly. And he knew that every small, caring act could help keep the Earth happy and beautiful—for everyone.
