Jamal loved his playroom. It had soft rugs, colorful bins, and a small table by a big window. On the table sat his favorite chess set. Outside, green leaves waved hello in the warm sun.
Today, Jamal's friends came over to play. They built tall towers with wooden blocks. They drew pictures with crayons. They made a pillow fort and played inside it. What a fun afternoon!
One by one, Jamal's friends went home. "Bye, Jamal!" they called. "Bye!" said Jamal with a wave. Then he turned around and looked at the room. "Oh my!" he said.
The playroom was a big mess! Blocks lay on the floor. Crayons were out of their box. Pillows were tossed here and there. Puzzle pieces hid under the rug. "Time to clean up!" said Jamal.
Jamal started with the blocks. He picked them up one by one. "Red block, blue block, in you go!" he sang as he dropped each one into the big red bin. Clink, clank, clunk!
Next came the crayons. Red, yellow, green, and blue — Jamal sorted them all. "Every crayon has a home," he sang. "Back in the box where they belong!" He tucked them in neatly, one by one.
Then Jamal fluffed the pillows. He stacked them up on the cozy reading corner. "Big pillow, small pillow, in you go!" he sang. Pat, pat, pat! The pillow fort was all put away.
Now it was time for the puzzle pieces. Jamal found them under the rug and behind the bins. He put them in the green puzzle box. But wait — one piece was left! It did not fit in that box.
"Hmm," said Jamal. "Where does this piece go?" He looked at the piece. It had a bit of blue sky and a tiny bird on it. He thought carefully — just like he did when he played chess.
"I know!" said Jamal. "This piece has a bird on it. The bird puzzle is in the blue bin!" He opened the blue bin and found the bird puzzle box. The piece fit perfectly! "I did it!" he cheered.
Jamal looked around the room. Every block was in its bin. Every crayon was in its box. Every pillow was in its spot. The playroom was clean, cozy, and just right. "I did all of that," he said with a smile.
Jamal sat down at his small table by the big window. The chess set was ready. The sun was warm. The room was quiet and neat. Jamal felt proud and happy. What a good afternoon.
