Mei loved to draw. Every day, she sat at the sunny kitchen table and filled her sketchbook with pictures. She drew cats, stars, flowers, and trees. "Drawing is my favorite thing!" said Mei.
But one morning, Mei did not feel like herself. Her nose was sniffly. Her eyes were heavy. She picked up her crayon, but her hand felt too tired to draw. "Oh no," said Mei. "I cannot finish my picture."
Mei's mom came over and felt Mei's forehead with a gentle hand. "You look tired, little one," said her mom. "I think your body needs some care today." Mei looked up. "How do I feel better?" she asked.
"I know three magical health rules!" said her mom with a warm smile. "They help your body grow strong and feel happy. Rule number one — wash your hands with bubbly soap!" Mei's eyes got wide. "Magical rules? Tell me more!"
Mei and her mom went to the cheerful bathroom. Mei turned on the water and squeezed the soap. Bubbles popped and fizzed between her fingers! "Scrub, scrub, scrub!" sang Mei. "Wash the germs away!" The bubbly soap made her hands sparkle clean.
Mei had an idea! She sat down and opened her sketchbook. She drew a picture of two hands covered in rainbow bubbles. Under it she wrote, "Wash your hands!" "That is a wonderful drawing," said her mom. "You are making a healthy guide!"
"Now for rule number two," said her mom. "Eat yummy rainbow fruits!" Back in the sunny kitchen, Mei saw red strawberries, orange slices, yellow bananas, green grapes, and purple plums. "It really is a rainbow!" giggled Mei.
Mei took a big, juicy bite of strawberry. "Mmm! Fruits give your body energy," said her mom. "They help you feel strong." Mei ate a little bit of every color. Then she opened her sketchbook and drew all the rainbow fruits in a row.
After eating, Mei yawned a big yawn. "I think it is time for rule number three," said her mom softly. "Rest when your body feels sleepy." Mei's mom took her hand, and they walked to Mei's soft bedroom together.
Mei snuggled into her cozy bed. The twinkly star curtains glowed softly in the window. "Rest helps your body heal and grow," whispered her mom. Mei closed her eyes and drifted into a warm, peaceful nap. Zzz, zzz, zzz.
When Mei woke up, she felt wonderful! Her nose was not sniffly. Her eyes were bright. She grabbed her sketchbook and drew a picture of herself sleeping under the stars. "I have three healthy drawings now!" cheered Mei. "My Healthy Me guide is done!"
The next day, Mei took her sketchbook outside. She showed her friends her special drawings. "Wash your hands! Eat rainbow fruits! And rest when you are sleepy!" said Mei. Her friends smiled and cheered. Mei felt strong, happy, and proud. Taking care of yourself is the best kind of magic!
