Kai loved the ocean more than anything! Every morning, he ran down the sandy path to the beach. The golden sand was warm under his feet. The blue waves sparkled in the sun. "What a great day!" said Kai with a big smile.
Kai walked along the shore. He looked at the tide pools nestled among the smooth, round rocks. Little fish swam. Tiny shells shimmered. "I wonder what I will find today," he said.
Then Kai heard a tiny sound. Click, click, click! A little crab was stuck between two big rocks. Its legs wiggled and wiggled, but it could not get free. "Oh no!" said Kai. "Don't worry, little crab. I will help you!"
Kai gently moved one rock to the side. The little crab was free! It waved its tiny claws up at Kai. Click, click, click! "You are welcome, little crab!" Kai laughed. He carefully set the crab down by a tide pool. "There you go. Home sweet home!"
The little crab scuttled into the tide pool. Splash! But then it saw something. A starfish was flipped upside down on a rock. Its arms wiggled slowly. It could not turn over. "Click, click!" went the crab. It wanted to help, just like Kai had helped it!
The little crab pushed and pushed with its strong claws. Pop! The starfish flipped right side up. The starfish stretched out its arms happily. It seemed to smile. Kindness was spreading—like a wave rolling across the sea!
Later, the sun got very hot. A seagull landed on the rocks near the tide pool. It panted in the heat. "Caw, caw!" it cried. The starfish saw the tired seagull. It scooted close to a tall rock that made a cool patch of shade.
The starfish waved one arm, as if to say, "Come sit here! There is shade!" The seagull hopped over and rested in the cool shadow of the tall rock. "Caw, caw!" it said softly. That meant "Thank you!" Kindness keeps on going and going!
Meanwhile, Kai grabbed his surfboard and ran to the waves. Splash! He paddled out and rode a wave all the way in. "Woohoo!" he cheered. But when he looked down, something was missing. "Oh no!" said Kai. "My surfboard fin! It fell off in the water!"
Kai looked and looked, but the fin had washed away. He sat down on the sand and sighed. "I can't surf without my fin," he said sadly. Just then, he heard a sound. "Caw, caw!" The seagull flew over the waves, carrying something in its beak!
The seagull dropped the surfboard fin right into Kai's hands! "My fin!" Kai cheered. "Thank you, seagull!" The seagull flapped its wings and flew in a happy circle. Kai smiled the biggest smile. His one little act of kindness had come all the way back to him!
Kai put the fin back on his surfboard and rode one more big wave. The crab clicked from the tide pool. The starfish stretched in the shade. The seagull soared overhead. Kindness ripples out like a wave—and it always comes back to you. "Best day ever!" said Kai.
