Every morning, Kai ran down to the sunny beach with his blue surfboard under his arm. The golden sand was warm on his feet. The ocean waves sparkled like tiny diamonds in the bright blue sky.
Kai loved to surf the same wave at the same spot every single day. Splash, splash, swoosh! He rode his blue surfboard across the water and laughed out loud. "This is the best!" said Kai.
One morning, Kai saw a new girl sitting by the tide pools. She was looking at tiny crabs and starfish in the water. She had a bright yellow boogie board and a big, friendly smile.
"Hi! I am new here," said the girl. "Do you want to try something fun today?" Kai tilted his head. "What do you mean?" he asked. "I like doing the same things every day!"
The girl giggled. "Come with me!" She led Kai to a food cart on the boardwalk. She held up a funny-looking fruit. It was pink on the outside with green tips, and white with tiny black seeds on the inside. "This is called dragon fruit!" she said.
Kai looked at the dragon fruit. "But I never tried that before!" he said. His new friend smiled. "New things help you grow!" she said. Kai took a small bite. It was sweet and cool and yummy! "Wow!" said Kai. "I love it!"
Next, the girl led Kai back to the golden sand. "Let's build a sand castle, but with silly new rules!" she said. "We can only use our elbows and our feet. No hands!" Kai laughed. "That sounds so silly!"
"But I never tried that before!" said Kai. "New things help you grow!" said his friend. So they pushed and patted the sand with their elbows and feet. Their castle looked wobbly and funny, and they could not stop giggling.
Then the girl picked up her bright yellow boogie board. "Now let's ride a wave on this!" she said. "You lie on your tummy instead of standing up. It is a whole new way to surf!" Kai's eyes got big.
"But I never tried that before!" said Kai. His friend smiled. "New things help you grow!" Kai took a deep breath. He held the bright yellow boogie board, ran into the water, and jumped on. Whoooosh! The wave carried him fast across the water!
Kai ran back to shore, dripping and smiling. "That was amazing!" he said. "I tried dragon fruit, I played a silly game, and I rode a boogie board! I feel so brave and proud!" His friend gave him a high five.
As the sun set over the sparkling water, Kai waved goodbye. "See you tomorrow!" he called. He walked home feeling curious and excited. What new thing would he try next? Kai smiled. Being brave enough to try something new was the best adventure of all.
