Mei sits cross-legged on a cozy bedroom floor, holding a bright crayon, leaning over her open sketchbook. On the sketchbook page, a small colorful door is drawn in crayon. In the background, a sunny bedroom with soft curtains, a bookshelf, and scattered crayons on the floor.

Mei loved to draw. She had a big sketchbook and lots of crayons. Every day, she drew something new. Today, she drew a little door right in the middle of the page.

Mei kneels in front of her sketchbook, eyes wide with wonder, as the little door on the page glows with golden watercolor light and swirls of color spiral out from it. In the background, the bedroom walls fade into soft, dreamy watercolor swirls of pink, blue, and yellow.

The little door began to glow! It swung open — whoooosh! Mei felt a warm, swirly breeze. She peeked inside. "Oh!" said Mei. And in she went!

Mei stands on a swirly crayon-colored hill, sketchbook tucked under her arm, looking up at the big elephant and looking down at the small mouse, who stand side by side on the colorful ground. In the background, rolling watercolor hills in pastel pink, green, and lavender under a soft glowing sky.

Mei landed in a world made of crayons and watercolors! The hills were swirly. The sky was soft. And everything came in twos. She saw a BIG elephant standing next to a small mouse. "Hello!" said the big elephant in a deep voice. "Hi!" squeaked the small mouse in a tiny voice.

Mei stands beside the winding path, sketching in her sketchbook, while the fast rabbit zooms past in a blur and the slow turtle plods gently along the crayon-colored trail behind. In the background, a winding pastel path curving through watercolor meadows dotted with tiny flowers.

Mei drew them in her sketchbook. Big and small! She walked down a winding path. Then she saw a FAST rabbit zoom by — zip, zip, zip! And a slow turtle crept behind — step… step… step. "Wait for me," said the slow turtle with a smile.

Mei looks up at the sky, sketchbook in hand, where the loud drum bounces on a fluffy cloud above while gentle, sparkly snowflakes drift softly down around her. In the background, a dreamy watercolor sky shifting from bright orange near the drum to cool, quiet blue near the falling snowflakes.

Fast and slow! Mei drew them too. Next, she heard a LOUD boom — CRASH, BANG, BOOM! It was a loud drum, bouncing on a cloud. Then soft, quiet snowflakes drifted down without a sound. Shhhhh. Can you be quiet like a snowflake?

Mei stands between the tall sunflower towering high above her head and the short daisy nestled in the grass at her feet, smiling at both as she holds her sketchbook. In the background, a crayon-colored garden with swirly green grass and soft watercolor sunshine.

Loud and quiet! Mei drew them in her book. She walked on. A TALL sunflower stretched way, way up to the sky. A short daisy sat snug in the grass below. "You are so tall!" said the short daisy. "You are so cute!" said the tall sunflower.

Mei watches and giggles as the big bear carefully and gently hugs the small ladybug in its soft fuzzy paws, both of them smiling on a crayon-colored meadow. In the background, soft watercolor trees in pink and purple with swirly trunks.

Tall and short! Then Mei saw something funny. A big, fuzzy bear gave a tiny hug to a small, small ladybug. The bear was so gentle. The ladybug giggled. "You are warm and squishy!" said the ladybug. Mei laughed and drew them too.

Mei stands at the edge of a crayon-colored clearing, looking worried, as the big elephant, the small mouse, the fast rabbit, and the slow turtle face each other with frowns and crossed arms in the center of the land. In the background, the watercolor land looks dim and gray, with droopy swirly hills and faded colors.

But then Mei heard something sad. Voices! Lots and lots of voices. She followed the winding path to the very heart of the land. All the opposites were there — and they were arguing! "I am big! You are too small!" said the elephant. "I am fast! You are too slow!" said the rabbit.

Mei holds up one hand gently, speaking to the group — the loud drum, the quiet snowflakes, the tall sunflower, and the short daisy all look upset, turned away from their partners in the faded, gray-toned clearing. In the background, the crayon-colored land looks washed out and gloomy with pale, sad swirls.

"We do not belong together!" they all said. The loud drum frowned. The quiet snowflakes looked sad. The tall sunflower turned away from the short daisy. Oh no! Mei felt her heart go thump. "Wait," she said softly. "I have an idea."

Mei sits on the ground in the center of the clearing, drawing eagerly in her sketchbook, which glows with bright crayon colors showing all the opposite pairs together — elephants and mice, rabbits and turtles, drums and snowflakes. In the background, faint sparkles and color begin returning to the swirly watercolor hills and sky.

Mei opened her sketchbook to a big, big page. She drew and drew and drew! She drew the big elephant holding the small mouse. She drew the fast rabbit giving the slow turtle a ride. She drew the loud drum playing a lullaby for the quiet snowflakes. She drew every opposite — side by side.

Mei holds up her glowing sketchbook for all to see as the big elephant, the small mouse, the fast rabbit, the slow turtle, the loud drum, the quiet snowflakes, the tall sunflower, the short daisy, the big bear, and the small ladybug all cheer and dance together in the brilliant, sparkling crayon-colored clearing. In the background, the watercolor land bursts with vivid, swirling colors — bright pinks, blues, greens, and golds with sparkles everywhere.

The opposites looked at Mei's picture. The big elephant smiled. The small mouse clapped. "We DO belong together!" they cheered. "Different is wonderful!" The whole land lit up — bright and beautiful! Colors swirled. The hills grew tall and small. The clouds bounced loud and quiet. Everything sparkled.

Mei sits on her bedroom floor, hugging her sketchbook to her chest with a warm smile, eyes closed happily. The sketchbook's pages peek open showing colorful crayon drawings of all the opposite pairs. In the background, a cozy, sunlit bedroom with warm golden light streaming through the curtains.

Mei felt a warm, swirly breeze again — whoooosh! She was back in her room. Her sketchbook was full of drawings. Big and small. Fast and slow. Loud and quiet. Tall and short. All different. All friends. Mei hugged her sketchbook and smiled. Different things can be the best of friends.
