Kai Counts in the Garden

Kai loved the ocean. He loved the waves. He loved the sand. But one sunny morning, Kai found something new by the shore — a little packet of seeds! The packet was shiny and golden. It said: MAGIC SEEDS. "Ooh!" said Kai. "I will plant these!"
Kai dug a little hole in the squishy, warm dirt. He dropped in 1 tiny seed. Pat, pat, pat! He patted the soil on top. The dirt smelled like wet sand and sweet flowers. "Grow, little seed!" said Kai. Can you count the seed? 1!
Pop! Pop! Two bright green sprouts wiggled up from the ground! They stretched and jiggled in the salty breeze. "Wow!" said Kai. "You grew so fast!" The sprouts danced back and forth, back and forth. Can you count them? 1, 2!
Then — surprise! Three sunny yellow flowers opened up wide. They smelled so sweet! Kai leaned in close. Sniff, sniff! "You smell like sunshine!" he said. The flowers nodded in the warm wind. Can you count them? 1, 2, 3!
Buzzzzz! What was that sound? Four fuzzy bees flew into the garden! They were soft and yellow with tiny black stripes. They buzzed from flower to flower. "Hello, bees!" said Kai. Can you count them? 1, 2, 3, 4!
Flutter, flutter! Five beautiful butterflies danced into the garden. They had wings of purple, pink, blue, orange, and red. They floated softly like tiny kites. "So pretty!" said Kai. Can you count them? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5!
Chirp, chirp, chirp! Six little birds landed on the driftwood fence. They were round and red and sang a happy song. Kai clapped his hands. "Sing, birds, sing!" he cheered. Can you count them? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6!
Wiggle, wiggle! Seven shiny worms peeked up from the dirt. They were pink and squishy and tickled Kai's toes! "Hee hee! That tickles!" Kai giggled. The worms wiggled back into the warm, dark soil. Can you count them? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7!
Ribbit! Ribbit! Eight little ladybugs crawled onto the leaves. Nine tiny snails slid slowly by, leaving silvery trails. And then — SPLASH! Ten green frogs hopped right out of the ocean and into the garden! "Whoa!" said Kai. Can you count the frogs? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10!
But oh no! A big gust of ocean wind blew through the garden. WHOOOOSH! Flower petals flew everywhere! They swirled up, up, up into the salty air. "Come back, petals!" called Kai. The butterflies and birds flew in circles. What a mess!
Kai was not scared. He was brave! He gently picked up each petal, one by one. "1… 2… 3…" he counted softly. The bees buzzed to help. The frogs hopped petals back. Everyone worked together! Kai tucked each petal back into the warm, squishy dirt. "There you go," he whispered.
The garden was full again! Seeds, sprouts, flowers, bees, butterflies, birds, worms, ladybugs, snails, and frogs — all together! Kai stood tall in the middle and smiled the biggest smile. "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10… all the way to ME!" And the garden cheered.
