Mateo walks into the apple orchard. The sun is warm. The air smells like cinnamon. Big green trees stand in long, long rows. "What a happy place!" says Mateo.

Mateo finds a wooden basket in the soft grass. Some apples have fallen in! "How many apples in the basket?" says Mateo. One... two... three... four! Four red apples in the basket!

Mateo picks up one apple. It is smooth and cool. He looks at it closely. A friendly farmer slices it open. "How many seeds inside?" says Mateo. One... two... three... four... five! Five little seeds hiding inside the apple!
