Ezra woke up to a warm, sunny morning. The light came in soft and gold. He stretched his arms up high. "What a good day!" he said.
In the kitchen, Ezra found warm toast on a blue plate. It was golden and crunchy. He took a big bite. Crunch, crunch, crunch! "Mmm! Thank you, thank you, just for you!" he whispered to his toast.
Ezra stepped outside. The sun was big and bright. It felt warm on his face, like a soft, sunny hug. He closed his eyes and smiled. "Thank you, thank you, just for you!" he whispered to the sun.
Ezra walked down the friendly sidewalk. Bright flowers grew along the path. Red ones! Yellow ones! Purple ones! They smelled sweet, like a tiny garden party. "Thank you, thank you, just for you!" he whispered to the flowers.
A friendly neighbor waved from across the street. "Good morning, Ezra!" she called. Ezra waved back with a big smile. Her smile made him feel happy inside. "Thank you, thank you, just for you!" he whispered to the smile.
A soft breeze blew by. Whoooosh! It tickled Ezra's hair and cooled his cheeks. It felt like the wind was playing with him! Can you feel a breeze right now? "Thank you, thank you, just for you!" he whispered to the breeze.
Ezra came to a babbling brook. The water went splish, splash, splish over smooth, round stones. He dipped his fingers in. The water was cool and tickly! "Thank you, thank you, just for you!" he whispered to the brook.
Bzzzzz! A fuzzy little bee landed on a purple flower. It was round and soft and busy, busy, busy! Ezra watched it very quietly. "Thank you, thank you, just for you!" he whispered to the bee.
At last, Ezra saw his favorite tree! It was big and leafy, with branches that reached up like arms. Soft grass and dandelions grew all around it. Dappled sunlight danced on the ground. "There you are!" said Ezra.
But wait — what was that? A single golden leaf sat right on top of his favorite book! It looked just like a little bookmark. The tree had left him a surprise! Ezra gasped. "For me?" he whispered.
Ezra picked up his book and hugged it tight. He leaned his back against the big, leafy tree. The bark felt warm and bumpy. He tucked the golden leaf inside. "Thank you, thank you, just for you," he whispered to the tree.
Ezra opened his book and began to read. The birds sang softly. The breeze hummed. Everything was just right. He smiled his biggest smile. "Thank you, thank you — for everything," he whispered. And the tree's leaves rustled, almost like they were whispering back. What are YOU thankful for today?
