The sun peeked in through the window. Kai opened his eyes and smiled. He could hear the waves going whoooosh outside. It was a brand new day at the beach!
Kai jumped out of bed. He wiggled his fingers and looked at his hands. "I have helping hands!" said Kai. "What can my helping hands do today?"
Kai's mama was making breakfast. It smelled warm and sweet! "Can I help?" asked Kai. He set the table — one plate, two plates, three plates. Clink, clink, clink!
Mama smiled a big, big smile. "Thank you, Kai! What helpful hands you have!" Kai felt warm inside. He felt tall inside. Helping hands felt good!
After breakfast, Kai saw his toys on the floor. Blocks here! Shells there! His little surfboard too! "My helping hands can pick up!" said Kai. He picked up one, two, three, four, five things!
Kai's papa peeked in. The room was all clean! Papa smiled a big, big smile. "Thank you, Kai! What helpful hands you have!" Kai felt warm inside. He felt tall inside!
Kai went outside. The tropical flowers were droopy and thirsty. The red ones, the yellow ones, the pink ones — all droopy! "My helping hands can water you!" said Kai. Splish, splash, splish!
The flowers stood up tall and danced in the salty breeze! They seemed to smile right at Kai. Kai felt warm inside. He felt tall inside — just like the flowers!
Down on the sand, Kai heard a tiny sound. Click, click, click! A little crab was going the wrong way — away from the sea! "Don't worry, little crab!" said Kai. He gently helped the crab turn around. Click, click, click — back to the water!
Kai built a big, tall sandcastle. He patted it smooth. He put a shell on top. "Look how big!" said Kai. But then — oh no! A wave came. SWOOSH! The sandcastle tumbled down. Kai felt small inside.
But look! Here came Mama, Papa, and even the little crab — click, click, click! "We have helping hands too!" said Mama. They all dug and patted and scooped together. The new sandcastle was the biggest one ever!
Kai smiled a big, big smile. Helping hands always come back around! Kai looked at his hands. "My helping hands made everyone feel good today," he said. "And everyone's helping hands made ME feel good too!" Kai felt warm inside. He felt tall inside. And that felt the biggest of all.
