Ezra sat under his big, shady tree. He loved this tree. He loved his books. He loved the warm sun on his nose. It was a very good day.
Then Ezra heard something funny. "A-a-a!" What was that? Ezra looked up. He looked down. He looked all around. "A-a-a!" There it was again!
"Where is that sound?" said Ezra. He followed it down the path. Step, step, step. The sound got louder. "A-a-a!" It was coming from inside his warm, cozy home!
Ezra walked into the bright kitchen. He saw the big wooden table. And on the table — oh! A shiny red apple was rolling! Roll, roll, roll. Bump! "A-a-a!" said the apple.
Ezra giggled. "Apple starts with 'a'!" he said. "A-a-apple!" The apple wiggled. Did the apple just smile? Ezra laughed and laughed.
Then Ezra heard it again. "A-a-a!" It was coming from outside! He ran to the sunny backyard. The grass was soft and tickly on his toes.
Ezra looked down. A tiny ant was marching by his feet! It walked in a wiggly line. Left, right, left, right. "A-a-a!" said the little ant.
"Ant starts with 'a' too!" said Ezra. "A-a-ant!" The tiny ant waved one little leg. Can you wave back? Ezra did! He waved and waved.
"A-a-a!" Oh no — the sound again! This time it came from inside the house. Ezra ran back in. Splish, splash! It came from the bubbly bathtub!
In the tub was his green toy alligator! It bobbed in the bubbles. Splash, splash, splash! "A-a-a!" said the toy alligator. The bubbles giggled. Pop, pop, pop!
"Alligator starts with 'a'!" said Ezra. "A-a-alligator!" He counted on his fingers. Apple. Ant. Alligator. Three 'a' words! The short 'a' sound was hiding everywhere!
Ezra snuggled back under his big, shady tree. He held his favorite book close. He smiled a big, proud smile. "A is for a-a-amazing!" he shouted. And it was. Letters and sounds are everywhere — just waiting for YOU to find them!
