Aisha opened her eyes. The sun was warm. The birds went tweet, tweet, tweet! "I feel HAPPY!" sang Aisha. She stretched her arms up, up, up and smiled a big, big smile.
But then — oh no. Her sock was missing. Her hair was tangled. "Hmph!" said Aisha. She crossed her arms. She scrunched her nose. "Now I feel GRUMPY!"
Then Aisha yawned a great big yawn. Her eyes got heavy. Her arms got floppy. "Oh," she said in a tiny voice. "Now I feel SLEEPY." So many feelings! And it was not even breakfast yet!
Then — wiggle, wiggle — her toes started to dance. Her tummy felt bubbly. A giggle popped out! "Ha ha ha! Now I feel SILLY!" Aisha wiggled and jiggled all around. Happy, grumpy, sleepy, silly — all mixed up together!
"So many feelings!" said Aisha. "What do I do?" She looked at Mr. Stomps on the floor. She picked him up. She hugged him tight. Then Aisha had a big idea. "I know! I will make up a SONG!"
Aisha sang: "Happy is yellow, like the sun so bright! I spin and I twirl with all my might!" She twirled around and around. And — whoooosh! Her bedroom began to shimmer. The walls turned into a rainbow road! Tiny paper hearts floated in the air. The Feelings Parade had begun!
Aisha marched down the rainbow road. She sang: "Grumpy is purple, like a stormy sky! I stomp and I stomp as I march on by!" She stomped her feet — STOMP, STOMP, STOMP! And Mr. Stomps stomped too! His fuzzy feet went thump, thump, thump on the shimmery sidewalk.
Aisha sang again: "Sleepy is blue, soft as a dream. I sway and I rock by a quiet stream." She swayed side to side, slow and gentle. The paper hearts floated down like a soft, warm blanket. Everything smelled sweet, like honey and toast.
Then Aisha sang her silliest song yet: "Silly is ORANGE, bright and loud! I wiggle my bottom and tickle a cloud!" She wiggled. She jiggled. And — surprise! A big, fluffy cloud floated down. "Hee hee hee!" giggled the cloud. "That tickles!" The cloud was TICKLISH!
The ticklish cloud bounced along with Aisha. Mr. Stomps stomped beside her. Paper hearts twirled all around. "Happy, grumpy, sleepy, silly!" Aisha sang. "Every feeling has a color! Every feeling has a dance! Every feeling is okay!" Can you dance YOUR feelings too?
Aisha took a deep breath. She hugged Mr. Stomps. "When I sing my feelings," she said, "they don't feel so mixed up anymore!" The ticklish cloud gave her a soft, warm nuzzle. "It helps to say how you feel," Aisha whispered. And the cloud whispered back, "Yes, it does."
The rainbow road shimmered one last time. And Aisha was back in her bright, cozy bedroom. She found her missing sock. She brushed her tangled hair. "Time for breakfast!" she sang. And she felt just right. Every feeling — bright or stormy — is perfectly okay. And it always, always helps to say how you feel.
