Ezra sat under his big, shady tree. The grass was soft and tickly on his toes. The leaves went swish, swish, swish. Ezra loved to read here.
Ezra opened his book. He read and read. But then—something wiggled on the page! Something jiggled! A little letter popped right up off the page and landed on Ezra's nose. JINGLE!
It was the letter J! The letter J was wiggly. The letter J was giggly. It bounced off Ezra's nose and jumped up and down. "J-j-j!" it jingled. "Come jump with me!"
Ezra jumped up! He followed the letter J down a magical path. The path was made of bouncing, jingling letters. They bounced and bounced together. "J-j-j!" they sang. Can you say "j-j-j"?
They came to a bush. But this was not any bush. This bush was full of jellybeans! Red jellybeans. Green jellybeans. Purple jellybeans. They were squishy and sweet and smelled like candy!
"Jellybean starts with J!" said Ezra. "J-j-j-jellybean!" The letter J jumped up and down. The jellybeans jiggled on the bush. Ezra jumped too! "J-j-j!" Can you jump and say it?
Next, they found rainbow hooks on a tall, curvy post. Jazzy jackets hung on every hook! A red jacket. A blue jacket. A sparkly gold jacket! They were soft and smooth and warm.
"Jacket starts with J!" said Ezra. "J-j-j-jacket!" He tried on the sparkly gold jacket. The letter J jingled and twirled. Ezra twirled too! "J-j-j!" Can you twirl and say it?
Then they heard a soft sound. Purrrr. A friendly, spotted jaguar walked up to them. It had big golden eyes and soft, warm fur. It purred, "J-j-j!" and nuzzled Ezra's hand.
"Jaguar starts with J!" said Ezra. "J-j-j-jaguar!" The jaguar purred. The letter J jumped. Ezra jumped! They all said, "J-j-j!" together. But then... oh no! Where did the letter J go?
The letter J was hiding! It was shy. Ezra called out, "Jellybean! Jacket! Jaguar! Jump! Jingle! J-j-j!" And POP! The letter J jumped right into Ezra's arms with a happy jingle! It was not shy anymore.
Ezra carried the letter J back to his tree. He tucked it gently into his book. He gave it a soft pat. "See you next time, J," he whispered. The letter J jingled one last quiet jingle. And Ezra smiled.
