Ezra loved to read. Every day, he sat under his favorite big tree in the green meadow. The sun was warm. The grass was soft. Ezra opened his book and smiled.
But wait — what was that? A little round letter O rolled right out of his book! It was round and orange and glowing. It bounced — boing, boing, boing — across the grass. "Come back!" said Ezra.
The little O rolled to the tree trunk. Pop! It opened a big, round door right in the tree! The door glowed with warm orange light. Ezra peeked inside. "Ohhh!" he said.
Ezra stepped through the round door. He was in a new world! Everything was round and open and warm. Bright orange trees dotted soft, rolling hills. The sky glowed with golden light. "O-o-o!" said Ezra. "This is wonderful!"
Three friendly owls sat on a branch. They had big, round eyes. "O! O! O!" they hooted. "Can you say it too?" Ezra opened his mouth nice and round. "O-o-o!" he said. The owls flapped their wings. "Hooray!"
Ezra walked down a soft hill. Splish, splash! Two jiggly octopuses played in a bubbly pool. Their round arms waved hello. "O! O! O!" they bubbled. Ezra giggled. "O-o-o!" he said back. The water tickled his toes!
Next, Ezra found a big orange tree full of round, sweet oranges. He picked one up. It was squishy and smooth. He smelled it. Mmm! So sweet! "O is for orange!" said Ezra. "O-o-o!"
Then Ezra heard a tiny sound. "Ohhh... ohhh..." A shy little owl sat all alone on a low branch. She looked sad. "What is wrong?" asked Ezra softly. "I lost my O," she said. "My round, glowing O. It is gone."
"I will help you find it!" said Ezra. He looked high. He looked low. The three friendly owls looked too. The two jiggly octopuses looked in the bubbly pool. Where could it be? "Hmm," said Ezra. "What is round like an O?"
Ezra looked at a big, squishy orange on the ground. It was glowing! He picked it up. He opened it gently. Pop! Inside was the shy little owl's round, glowing O! It was warm and bright. "You found it!" cried the shy little owl. "O! O! O!"
Everyone was so happy! The owls, the octopuses, and Ezra all held hands and arms in a big, round circle. The stars came out above them, round and twinkling. Together, they all sang, "O-o-o! O-o-o! O-o-o!" It was the best sound in the world.
Ezra stepped back through the round door in the tree. He sat under his favorite tree again. He hugged his book close. "O," he whispered with a smile. And somewhere far away, a little owl hooted back, "O! O! O!" The end.
