Hana loves to dance in her kitchen. She spins. She twirls. Her bare feet go tap, tap, tap on the warm floor. The pots go clang! The spoons go clink! Hana dances and dances.
Hana spins faster and faster. Round and round she goes! Then — z-z-zip! A big, sparkly zipper opens right in the air! It glows pink and gold. "Ooooh!" says Hana. "What is in there?"
Z-z-zoom! Hana flies through the zipper! She lands on a big, checkered floor — black and white squares, like a giant puzzle. The sky is orange and pink, warm like a sunset. Everything hums a soft sound: z-z-z, z-z-z.
"Z-z-z! Z-z-z!" Who is that? It is a zebra! A friendly zebra with black and white stripes. She prances on the checkered floor. Clip-clop, clip-clop! "Dance with me!" says the zebra.
Hana dances with the zebra! They zigzag left. They zigzag right. Zig! Zag! Zig! Zag! Their feet go clip-clop, tap-tap on the checkered floor. "Z-z-z!" they hum together. What a zigzaggy dance!
Then Hana sees something new. Giant zinnias! Big, big flowers in every color — red, yellow, purple, pink! But wait. Each flower has a tiny zipper on it. Z-z-zip! Hana pulls one open. Pop! The petals burst out and tickle her nose!
Z-z-zip! Z-z-zip! Hana unzips more flowers. Each one pops open with a sweet, warm smell. They smell like honey! They smell like sunshine! Hana dances around the zinnias, spinning and buzzing. "Z-z-z! I am a buzzy bee!" she laughs.
Now the "z-z-z" hum is getting softer. Z-z-z... z-z-z... The sky is getting sleepy. More zebras come to dance. One, two, three zebras! They all zigzag with Hana. But their zigzags are slow and gentle now.
The zinnias close their petals. Z-z-zip. The zippers zip up, one by one. Z-z-z... The world is getting quiet. Hana yawns a little yawn. "How do I get home?" she wonders.
Then — the littlest zebra yawns. It is a big, cozy yawn. "Aaaahhh-z-z-z!" And suddenly — z-z-zip! A glowing doorway opens right in the air! It shines warm and golden. Hana can see her kitchen inside! "Thank you, little zebra!" Hana whispers.
Hana steps through the glowing door. Z-z-zip! She is back in her warm kitchen. The pots are quiet. The spoons are still. The sunset glows softly through the window. Hana does one last gentle twirl.
Hana curls up in a cozy blanket on the kitchen floor. She closes her eyes. "Z-z-z," she whispers. And just like that, Hana drifts off to a warm, happy sleep. Z-z-z... z-z-z... Goodnight, Hana.
