Luna was a small gray cat with soft fur and big green eyes. She wore a shiny silver bell on her collar that jingled every time she moved. Luna loved her bell more than anything. Jingle, jingle, jingle! It made her feel safe and happy.
Luna lived in a warm house with her family. Every morning, she would curl up on a big soft lap. Every night, she would purr and purr until everyone smiled. "You are the best cat in the world," her family would say. And Luna would jingle her bell with pride.
But one day, something changed. The house got very quiet. Luna could feel it in her whiskers. Her family sat together and spoke in soft, gentle voices. "Things are going to be a little different now," they said. Luna did not understand. She tilted her head and her bell went jingle.
Soon, Luna saw boxes. Big boxes, small boxes, boxes everywhere! Some things went into one pile. Some things went into another. Luna's family was moving—but not together. They were making two homes instead of one. Luna hid under the bed. Her bell did not jingle at all.
The first new home was a sunny yellow house with a garden full of white daisies. It smelled like warm bread and flowers. Luna walked in slowly, sniffing every corner. But something was wrong. Her favorite bell toy—the little golden ball with a tiny bell inside—was gone! "Oh no," Luna meowed softly. "Where is my bell toy?"
Luna looked under the new couch. She looked behind the new curtains. She looked inside every box. No bell toy. Luna sat in the middle of the room and felt a big, heavy feeling in her chest. She felt sad. She felt confused. She did not know why everything had to change. A tiny tear rolled down her furry cheek.
A warm hand reached down and gently picked Luna up. "It is okay to feel sad, Luna," said a soft voice. "Big changes can feel scary. But you can always come to me when you feel that way. I am still here. I still love you just the same." Luna pressed her head into the warm hand. Jingle went her bell, just a little.
The next day, Luna went to the second home. It was a soft blue house with a big porch swing that creaked back and forth. Inside, there was a new sunny window seat, just for her! Luna hopped up and watched the dandelions dance in the yard. "This is your special spot," said a kind voice. Luna purred, just a little.
But Luna still missed her bell toy. She walked between her two homes on the friendly sidewalk lined with dandelions. Buzzing bees hummed around her. Jingle, jingle, jingle. Then she stopped. She heard something! A tiny, familiar sound—ting, ting, ting. There, hiding in a patch of dandelions, was her little golden ball with the tiny bell inside!
Luna batted the golden ball with her paw. Ting, ting, ting! She rolled it down the sidewalk, first toward the yellow house, then toward the blue house. Back and forth she went, and for the first time in days, Luna felt like herself again. "My bell toy can go to both homes," she thought. "And so can I!"
That night, Luna curled up on a warm lap in the blue house. Her golden bell toy sat right beside her. "You know what, Luna?" said the kind voice. "Some things change. But love does not go away. It just finds new places to live." Luna purred and purred. Her silver bell jingled softly. She felt warm. She felt loved.
Luna still had big feelings sometimes. Some days were hard, and that was okay. She learned to press close to someone warm when she felt scared, and to purr out her worries until they got smaller. But every morning, whether she woke up in the yellow house or the blue house, Luna heard the same sweet sound. Jingle, jingle, jingle. And she knew—she was home.
