Cactus Cody put on his big brown boots. He put on his tall cowboy hat. Today was a big day at the ranch! The sun was warm. The sky was blue. And the spotted horses were waiting.
But wait — who was that by the corral? It was his friend Nessie Sparkles! She was big and shimmery and green. Her scales sparkled like glitter in the sun. "Howdy, Cody!" she said. "Let's go explore!"
Cactus Cody climbed up on a spotted horse. Clip-clop, clip-clop! The horse trotted around the corral. The warm breeze blew. The puffy white clouds wiggled and giggled up above. What a fun day!
Then Cody felt something. A funny wiggly feeling in his tummy. He did a little squirmy dance on the horse. Wiggle, wiggle, squirm! "Hmm," said Cody. "I do not want to stop. I am having too much fun!"
Nessie Sparkles saw Cody wiggle. She knew that dance! "Cody!" she said. "Your body is telling you something. That wiggly feeling means you need to go potty! Stop what you are doing and tell a grown-up. Then hurry to the potty!"
Cody hopped off the horse. He ran to a grown-up. "I need to go potty!" he said. Then he hurried to the little yellow outhouse with the cactus on the door. He made it just in time! "Phew!" said Cody.
Cody washed his hands and ran back to play. He climbed up on the spotted horse again. Clip-clop, clip-clop! He and Nessie Sparkles raced around the ranch. The dust went poof! The wind smelled like warm sand and hay.
Then — uh-oh! That wiggly feeling came back. Wiggle, wiggle, squirm! Cody did the squirmy dance again. "Not now!" said Cody. "We are having the best race!" He kept riding. He waited and waited.
"Cody!" called Nessie Sparkles. "Remember — when you feel the wiggle, do not wait! Your body is talking to you. Listen to it right away!" Cody's eyes got big. She was right! He hopped off the horse fast, fast, fast!
Cody ran to a grown-up. "I need to go potty NOW!" he said. Then he ran to the little yellow outhouse with the cactus on the door. He pulled open the door — and made it! All by himself! His boots went stomp, stomp on the wooden floor.
Cody washed his hands and burst outside. "YEEHAW!" he shouted. He did a happy cowboy dance. Nessie Sparkles clapped her shimmery flippers. The puffy clouds giggled in the breeze. "I did it!" said Cody. "And now I can go right back to riding!"
The sun began to set. The sky turned pink and orange. Cody patted his spotted horse goodnight. "Tomorrow I will listen to my body again," he said softly. "Every day it gets a little easier." Nessie Sparkles smiled. Tomorrow there would be more horses to ride, more dust to kick up, and more adventures to have — one potty trip at a time.
