Diego, an outgoing boy, runs joyfully down a sidewalk holding a shiny blue soccer ball under one arm, his sneakers pounding the pavement with a big smile on his face. In the background, a bright sunny neighborhood with colorful houses and green trees.

Diego loved soccer more than anything in the whole world. He loved to kick, run, and score goals. On sunny days, he would grab his shiny blue soccer ball and race to the park as fast as his legs could go.

A wide, grassy soccer field on a bright sunny day with colorful benches along the sideline and a big oak tree providing shade at the edge of the field. In the background, a blue sky with a few puffy white clouds.

Today was a perfect day for soccer! The sun was warm and the sky was big and blue. Diego ran through the park gate and headed straight for the grassy soccer field. He could hear kids laughing and shouting.

Diego, an outgoing boy holding a shiny blue soccer ball, stands at the edge of the grassy soccer field with a surprised look on his face, watching the action ahead. In the background, a group of kids running and playing soccer on the bright green field.

But when Diego got to the field, he saw something that made him stop. A group of kids were already playing a game! They ran back and forth, kicking and passing. The game was right in the middle, and everyone looked busy.

Diego, an outgoing boy, pauses mid-step at the edge of the grassy soccer field, clutching his shiny blue soccer ball to his chest with a thoughtful expression, one foot raised. In the background, the colorful benches along the sideline and the big oak tree.

Diego wanted to play right now! He squeezed his shiny blue soccer ball tight and took a big step forward. He almost ran right onto the field. But then he stopped himself. "Wait," he whispered. "They are in the middle of a game."

Diego, an outgoing boy, sits on a bright colorful bench along the sideline with his shiny blue soccer ball on his lap, his feet tapping the ground, watching the field with eager eyes. In the background, the big oak tree providing shade and the sunny grassy soccer field.

Diego took a deep breath. He walked to one of the colorful benches along the sideline and sat down. It was hard to wait. His feet tapped and his knees bounced. But he knew that jumping into someone else's game without asking would not be kind.

A girl with a long ponytail wearing a bright green jersey mid-kick on the grassy soccer field, her leg swinging forward as she passes the ball, smiling toward the sideline. In the background, the colorful benches along the sideline and other kids running on the field.

While he waited, Diego watched the game. A girl with a long ponytail made a great pass! "Wow, nice kick!" Diego called out from the bench. The girl with the ponytail looked over and smiled. "Thanks!" she said.

Diego, an outgoing boy, stands up from the bright colorful bench along the sideline, cupping his hands around his mouth and cheering with a joyful expression, his shiny blue soccer ball sitting on the bench beside him. In the background, the sunny grassy soccer field with kids playing.

Diego kept cheering. "Great goal!" he shouted when a boy scored. "Good save!" he yelled when someone blocked the ball. The kids on the field started to wave at him. Cheering for others felt really good.

Diego, an outgoing boy, walks toward a group of kids near the big oak tree, holding his shiny blue soccer ball, with a polite and hopeful expression on his face, one hand slightly raised in a wave. In the background, the big oak tree with dappled shade and the grassy soccer field.

Soon the kids stopped for a water break. Diego saw his chance. He walked over slowly. His heart beat fast, but he remembered to use his polite words. "Excuse me," Diego said. "May I please play with you?"

A girl with a long ponytail wearing a bright green jersey grins and points welcomingly at the viewer, standing under the big oak tree with a water bottle in her other hand. In the background, other kids nodding and smiling on the grassy soccer field.

The girl with the long ponytail grinned. "You're the one who was cheering for us!" she said. "That was so nice. Of course you can play!" The other kids nodded and smiled. Diego felt warm and happy inside.

Diego, an outgoing boy, leaps into the air with both fists raised in celebration on the grassy soccer field after scoring a goal, a huge grin on his face. In the background, a soccer goal net and the colorful benches along the sideline.

Diego ran onto the field with his new friends. He passed the ball. He dribbled fast. He even scored a goal! "Yes!" Diego cheered, jumping up and down. The girl with the ponytail gave him a high five.

A group of kids sitting together in a circle on the grass under the big oak tree with dappled shade, with water bottles and the shiny blue soccer ball in the middle of the circle. In the background, the sunny grassy soccer field and the colorful benches along the sideline.

After the game, the kids all sat together under the big oak tree. "You were really patient," said the girl with the ponytail. "And you said please. That made us want to play with you." Diego smiled. "Being polite is like a magic key," he said. "It opens doors that pushing never could."

Diego, an outgoing boy, walks along the park path carrying his shiny blue soccer ball under one arm, looking back over his shoulder and waving with a warm smile. In the background, a gorgeous orange and pink sunset sky over the neighborhood park with the big oak tree silhouetted.

As the sun turned orange and pink, Diego waved goodbye to his new friends. "Same time tomorrow?" he asked. "Yes!" they all called back. Diego walked home with his shiny blue soccer ball under his arm, thinking about how one little word—please—had turned a lonely afternoon into the best day ever. He could not wait for tomorrow.
