Princess Zoombella lived in a bright, colorful kingdom. The streets were made of cobblestone, and flowers lined every sidewalk. She loved butterflies more than anything in the whole wide world.
Her best friend was Blossom Sprout, a cheerful little plant monster who loved to garden. "Zoombella!" said Blossom Sprout. "I heard the Royal Butterfly Garden has hundreds of butterflies! Can we go see them?"
"Yes! Let's go!" said Princess Zoombella. But the Royal Butterfly Garden was all the way across the kingdom. It was too far to walk. "How will we get there?" asked Blossom Sprout, looking worried.
"We can ride the village bus!" said Princess Zoombella. "A bus is a big vehicle that carries lots of people from place to place. It drives along a route and stops to pick people up." Blossom Sprout tilted his leafy head. "I have never been on a bus before!"
They walked to the bus stop. A wooden bench sat under a big blossoming tree. A sign showed when the bus would come. "First, we wait here at the bus stop," said Zoombella. "The bus follows a route, like a path. It will stop right here for us."
Soon, the friendly yellow bus rolled up and stopped. The door folded open with a whoosh! "Now we pay the fare," said Princess Zoombella. "The fare is the money you pay to ride the bus." She dropped two shiny coins into the fare box. Clink, clink!
They found two seats together near the front. "When you ride a bus, you sit in your seat and hold on tight," said Zoombella. "The bus has a big engine that makes it go. The driver steers it and uses brakes to stop." The bus began to move. Rumble, rumble, rumble!
The engine was loud. VROOOOM! New people got on at every stop. Blossom Sprout's little leaves started to shake. "There are so many people," he whispered. "And the bus is so loud. I feel scared, Zoombella."
Princess Zoombella held Blossom Sprout's leafy hand. "It is okay to feel nervous when something is new," she said softly. "Let's take a deep breath together. Breathe in... and breathe out." They breathed in slowly. They breathed out slowly. Blossom Sprout's leaves stopped shaking.
"Staying close to a friend helps, too," said Zoombella. Blossom Sprout smiled. "You are right! I feel better now." He looked out the big window. The bus drove past gardens, meadows, and a sparkling pond. "Wow, everything looks so pretty from up here!" he said.
The bus slowed down and stopped. "Royal Butterfly Garden!" called the driver. Princess Zoombella and Blossom Sprout stepped off the bus. Hundreds of butterflies danced in the air — blue ones, orange ones, and purple ones with golden spots! "This is the best day ever!" cheered Blossom Sprout.
Princess Zoombella watched a blue butterfly land on her finger. She smiled and looked at Blossom Sprout. "The bus can take us anywhere," she said. "To the mountain market, the seaside village, the starflower fields..." Her eyes grew wide with wonder. "Where do you want to go next?"
