Princess Zoombella lived in a big, sunny castle with tall yellow towers. The castle sat in a kingdom full of wildflowers and tiny sparkles that floated in the air like magic. Mom and Dad lived there too, and every morning they all ate breakfast together by the window.
Zoombella's best friend was a sparkly android named Blinky Sparx. Blinky had shiny silver arms and bright blinking lights that changed color when he was happy. He loved puzzles more than anything, and Zoombella loved butterflies more than anything. Together, they were the perfect team.
Every day, Zoombella and Blinky Sparx played in the butterfly garden behind the castle. They chased blue butterflies. They chased orange butterflies. They even chased one tiny purple butterfly that liked to land on Blinky's nose. Life felt just right.
But one day, something changed. Mom and Dad sat down with Zoombella. Their faces were soft and serious. "We need to tell you something important," said Mom. "Dad is going to move across the river to a new castle," said Dad. "We will not live together anymore. But we both love you so, so much."
Zoombella's tummy felt tight. Her eyes felt hot. She didn't know what to say. She felt sad. She felt confused. She even felt a little angry. All of those feelings came at once, like a big storm inside her chest. She ran to the garden and sat under her favorite tree.
Blinky Sparx sat down beside her. His lights blinked soft and slow, like a gentle heartbeat. "You have a lot of big feelings," Blinky said quietly. "Can you tell me about them?" Zoombella sniffled. "I feel sad AND mad AND scared, all at the same time. Is that okay?" "Yes," said Blinky. "It is always okay to feel many feelings at once."
Then Zoombella whispered something very small. "Blinky... was it my fault?" Blinky's lights turned warm and golden. "No," he said firmly. "It is never, ever a kid's fault when grown-ups make this choice. Not ever. This is a grown-up decision, and it has nothing to do with anything you did." Zoombella let out a long, shaky breath. It helped to hear that.
Blinky pulled out a small puzzle from his pocket. Some of the pieces were different shapes than before. "Look," he said. "Sometimes the pieces of a puzzle change shape. That can feel strange and hard. But you can still make something beautiful. You just have to be patient and try the pieces in new ways."
"And here is another thing that helps," said Blinky. "When your feelings get really big, you can talk about them — to Mom, to Dad, to me, to anyone you trust. Keeping big feelings inside makes them feel bigger. But sharing them makes them feel lighter." Zoombella nodded slowly. She was starting to feel a little lighter already.
The next week, Dad took Zoombella across the gentle, winding river to see his new castle. It had round blue towers and a cozy puzzle workshop inside. But the best surprise was outside — Dad had planted a brand-new butterfly garden, just for her. "I wanted you to have butterflies here too," Dad said with a smile.
Zoombella looked back across the river. She could still see Mom's sunny castle with its tall yellow towers and the garden she knew so well. She looked at Dad's cozy blue castle with its new butterfly garden and puzzle workshop. Two castles. Two homes. And love on both sides of the river. Her heart was big enough to hold all of it.
Just then, a tiny purple butterfly floated up from Dad's garden. It drifted over the river, slow and free. It landed on a flower on Mom's side. Then it flew back again. Zoombella smiled. "Look, Blinky," she said softly. "The butterfly goes to both sides too." Blinky's lights blinked bright. "Just like you," he said. And the butterfly kept flying — back and forth, back and forth — free and brave and full of sky.
