Queen Neena sat on her cozy throne and clapped her hands. "I want to have a party!" she said. "I will invite all my friends to the castle!" She jumped up and spun around with joy. But then she stopped. She looked around the throne room. Oh my. Pillows were tossed here and there. Books were stacked in wobbly piles. Crayons rolled across the floor.
Queen Neena walked to the playroom. Toys were everywhere! Blocks sat in the doorway. Stuffed animals lay on the rug, the chairs, and even on top of the bookshelf. Dress-up clothes spilled out of a big trunk. Glitter sparkled on the floor like tiny stars. "Oh no," said Queen Neena. "My castle is a jumbled mess! My friends cannot play in here!"
Just then, a sparkly glow floated through the wall. It was Glimmer Puff! The little ghost shimmered and twirled in the air, leaving a trail of soft, glittery light. "Hello, Queen Neena!" said Glimmer Puff. "Why do you look so sad?" Queen Neena sighed. "I want to have a party, but every room is too messy. It feels like SO much to clean up!"
Glimmer Puff giggled and floated closer. "I know a magical trick!" said the little ghost. "Do not look at ALL the mess at once. That makes it feel too big! Instead, pick one small spot. Just one! Clean that spot first. Then pick the next spot." Queen Neena tilted her head. "Just one small spot?" she asked. "Just one!" said Glimmer Puff. "You will see!"
"And here is the best part," said Glimmer Puff. "We sing a silly song while we clean! It makes tidying up feel like a game!" Glimmer Puff began to sing in a wiggly, giggly voice: "Pick it up, put it back, every toy finds its track! One by one, bit by bit, soon the room is nice and fit!" Queen Neena laughed. "That IS silly!" she said. "Let's try it!"
Queen Neena started with one small spot—the blocks by the door. She sang the silly song and picked up one block, then two, then three. She put them in the big blue block bin. Glimmer Puff floated beside her, humming along. "Pick it up, put it back!" they sang together. Before she knew it, all the blocks were in the bin. "I did it!" said Queen Neena. "That was fast!"
Next, Queen Neena picked up the stuffed animals. She gave each one a little hug before setting it on the toy shelf. "You go here, little bear. And you go here, soft bunny!" Glimmer Puff helped by floating the dress-up clothes back into the big purple trunk. One sparkly cape. One pirate hat. One pair of fairy wings. The playroom was starting to look wonderful!
They hopped to the throne room next. Queen Neena stacked the pillows in a neat, cozy pile by the throne. She put the books back on the tall bookshelf, one by one. She picked up every crayon and dropped them into the crayon cup. "Pick it up, put it back, every toy finds its track!" she sang. Glimmer Puff cheered, "You are getting so good at this!"
Room by room, spot by spot, Queen Neena and Glimmer Puff tidied the whole castle. They swept glitter. They folded blankets. They put art supplies in their bins. Every time a room was clean, Queen Neena stood in the doorway and smiled. "Look how nice it looks!" she said. Her heart felt warm and proud. A clean space made her feel calm and happy inside.
"Glimmer Puff," said Queen Neena, "I thought cleaning would be hard. But doing one small spot at a time made it easy! And the silly song made it fun!" Glimmer Puff twirled happily. "And here is one more secret," said the little ghost. "If you pick up a little bit every day, the mess never gets too big. Then it only takes a few minutes!" Queen Neena nodded. "I can do that!"
Ding-dong! The castle doorbell rang. Queen Neena's friends were here! She opened the big castle doors, and in came her friends, one by one. "Your castle looks beautiful!" they said. Queen Neena grinned. "Thank you! I cleaned it all by myself—well, with a little help from Glimmer Puff!" The party began with music, dancing, and lots of laughter.
That night, after the party, Queen Neena looked around. There were a few cups on the table and some streamers on the floor. But this time, she did not worry. She hummed her silly song and picked up just a little bit before bed. "Pick it up, put it back," she sang softly. Tomorrow she would pick up a little more. And the next day, a little more. The castle would always shine because Queen Neena knew the real magic was just a little bit, every single day.
