Look up! Way up high! Queen Neena sees the big blue sky. White, fluffy clouds float up, up, up. "Where does snow come from?" she asks.
Queen Neena puts on her warm, puffy red coat. She pulls on her bright yellow mittens. Zip, zip! Snug and warm! When it is cold, we bundle up tight!
Up, up, up she climbs! Step, step, step — into the clouds! The clouds are soft. The clouds are white. They feel like fluffy pillows!
What is inside the clouds? Tiny water drops! Drip, drip, drip! So many little drops, dancing and sparkling. Can you see them shimmer?
Brrr! It is cold up here! Very, very cold! The tiny water drops start to shiver. Shiver, shiver, shiver! What happens when water gets very cold?
The tiny water drops freeze! They get hard and still. Ice! Each tiny drop becomes a tiny piece of ice. Cold, cold, cold!
But wait! Something magical happens! The tiny ice pieces stick together. They grow and grow. They make shapes — beautiful shapes! Stars and flowers made of ice!
Snowflakes! Each one is different. This one has six tiny arms. That one looks like a little star. No two snowflakes are the same! Every single one is special.
Now the snowflakes are ready! Down, down, down they fall. Soft and slow. Shhhhh. So quiet. Snowflakes do not make a sound. They float like tiny feathers.
Queen Neena holds out her bright yellow mitten. One soft snowflake lands — right on her hand! So tiny. So pretty. She looks very closely. Six little arms, like a star!
Down in the meadow, the snow piles up. White and soft and still. Queen Neena smiles. Water goes up. Water gets cold. Ice sticks together. And snow falls down! Now she knows!
Queen Neena looks up at the big sky one more time. More clouds are coming. More tiny water drops will dance. More snowflakes will fall — tomorrow, and the day after that. So many snowy days ahead, waiting just for her.
