Good morning, little kingdom! The sun is up. The clouds smile. Queen Neena puts on her tall, golden crown and walks into her garden. What a happy day!
Queen Neena loves to build! She stacks her blocks up, up, up. Red block. Blue block. Yellow block. Look how tall! "This is my best tower!" she says.
Oh no! Wobble, wobble… CRASH! Down fall the blocks. Red block. Blue block. Yellow block. All on the ground. Queen Neena's tower is gone.
A big, red, grumbly feeling fills Queen Neena up inside. It starts in her tummy. It moves to her chest. It goes all the way to her face! She is MAD. Stomp, stomp, stomp go her feet. Her frown gets big. The red feeling gets bigger… and BIGGER!
Then Queen Neena stops. She remembers something. Breathe in — smell the flower. Breathe out — blow the pinwheel. In… and out. In… and out. Slow and soft. Can you breathe with her?
The big red feeling gets smaller. And smaller. It is still there, but it is not so loud now. Queen Neena opens her eyes. She sees her friend sitting on a branch.
"Little bluebird," says Queen Neena, "I feel angry. My tower fell down and I am mad." She says it out loud. I am angry. And you know what? Saying it makes the feeling less scary.
A soft little bunny hops over. "I get angry too," says the bunny. "When I cannot find my carrots, I feel mad inside. But I ask for help, and that feels better."
A tiny green frog jumps up. Ribbit! "I get angry too," says the frog. "When it does not rain, I feel grumbly. But I talk about it, and the grumbly feeling gets small."
A little red ladybug lands on Queen Neena's finger. "I get angry too," says the ladybug. "When the wind blows me far away, I feel mad. But I breathe, just like you, and I feel okay again."
Queen Neena looks at her friends — the bunny, the frog, the ladybug, and the little bluebird. Everyone feels angry sometimes! It is okay. You can breathe. You can talk. You can ask for help.
Now the big red feeling is tiny and warm, like a little light in Queen Neena's heart. She holds it gently. It is part of her, and that is okay. Tomorrow is a brand-new day in her little kingdom — and whatever she feels, she will never feel it alone.
