Princess Zoombella loved butterflies. She loved their soft wings. She loved their bright colors. Every morning, she walked through her garden and whispered, "Hello, little friends!" The butterflies would flutter all around her like tiny flying flowers.
One sunny day, a butterfly she had never seen before landed on her nose. It was bright blue with tiny silver sparkles on its wings. "Ooh!" said Princess Zoombella. "You are new!" The blue butterfly fluttered toward the old garden gate. It glowed and shimmered! A magical door!
Princess Zoombella stepped through the magical door. Whoooosh! Soft pink petals floated everywhere. She was in a garden in Japan! The cherry blossoms smelled sweet, like honey and spring. The blue butterfly with tiny silver sparkles danced above her head. "Where are we?" she asked.
A friendly girl in a pretty pink kimono walked over. She smiled and gave a gentle bow. Princess Zoombella bowed back. "In Japan, we bow to say hello," the girl said softly. "It means I am happy to meet you!" Zoombella tried it again — bow, bow, bow! It felt warm and kind. A new butterfly joined the trail — this one was pink with white cherry blossom spots!
The butterflies led her through another shimmer of light. Whoooosh! Now it was warm — very warm! She was in a sandy market in Morocco. Piles of orange and red spices filled big round bowls. The air smelled spicy and sweet, like cinnamon. "Ooh!" said Princess Zoombella. "It smells so good!"
A friendly boy waved at her. He held a round, warm piece of bread. "This is special bread we share in Morocco," he said. "Would you like to try some?" Princess Zoombella took a bite. It was soft, warm, and a little bit sweet. "Yum!" she giggled. When someone shares food with you, it means they care. A new butterfly appeared — this one was orange with swirly red patterns!
The butterflies twirled and led her on again. Whoooosh! Now everything was green, green, GREEN! She was in a big rainforest in Brazil. Huge leafy trees stretched up, up, up to the sky. She could hear birds singing and water dripping. Drip, drip, drop! The air felt warm and wet, like after a bath.
A friendly girl ran over, clapping her hands. Clap, clap, clap! "In Brazil, we dance the samba!" she said. "Want to try? Just clap and wiggle!" Princess Zoombella clapped her hands. Clap, clap! She wiggled her feet. Wiggle, wiggle! She laughed and laughed. Dancing is a wonderful way to say, "I want to be your friend!" A new butterfly joined — bright green with golden swirls!
The butterflies swirled once more. Whoooosh! Brrr! Now it was cold! Soft white snow covered everything. She was in a cozy little village in Norway. Tiny glowing lights twinkled on every house. Crunch, crunch went the snow under her feet. It sparkled like sugar.
A friendly boy wrapped in a thick wool scarf smiled at her. "Come sit by the fire," he said. He put a soft, cozy wool blanket around her shoulders. It was warm and fuzzy. They sat by the crackling fire. Crackle, pop! "In Norway, we stay cozy together when it is cold," he said. Princess Zoombella felt safe and warm. A new butterfly appeared — white with icy blue snowflake patterns!
The butterflies led her one more place. Whoooosh! She was somewhere new. Children were playing, but she did not know anyone. Princess Zoombella felt a little shy. Her tummy felt fluttery. But then she remembered! She gave a gentle bow. She shared a smile. She clapped her hands. Clap, clap! A girl ran over and giggled. "Will you play with me?" When you feel shy, try a smile. A smile says hello in every language.
That night, Princess Zoombella sat in her garden. The butterflies rested softly on the flowers around her. She looked up at the big, bright stars. "The world is so big," she whispered. "And so wonderful." She hugged her knees and smiled. Somewhere out there, new friends were waiting. New foods to taste. New dances to learn. New ways to say hello. She closed her eyes and whispered, "I cannot wait to see where the butterflies take me tomorrow."
