Flicker Sparkleaf lived in a cozy treehouse high up in a glowing forest. Her home had a round green door, leaf-curtain windows, and the best view in the whole village. Tiny mushroom-cap homes dotted the mossy branches all around. Soft golden lanterns swayed in the breeze like little dancing stars.
Every day, Flicker went on adventures with her best friend, Glimmer Puff. They climbed tall branches. They swung on vines. They explored every nook and cranny of the ancient forest. "What should we discover today?" Flicker would ask. "Something amazing!" Glimmer Puff would say, spinning with joy.
But one morning, something was different. Flicker's mom and dad came home carrying a tiny bundle wrapped in a soft leaf blanket. "Flicker, come meet your new baby brother," her mom said with a warm smile. Flicker peeked at the little face. He was so small. He was so quiet. He was so... new.
Everyone in the village came to see the baby. "Oh, how sweet!" said a friendly neighbor. "What a dear little one!" said another. They brought gifts and flowers and tiny acorn rattles. Everyone smiled at the baby. Everyone talked about the baby. Flicker sat in the corner and felt very, very small.
Then Flicker saw something that made her tummy flip. Her favorite reading nook — the one by the leaf-curtain window — was gone. In its place sat a tiny acorn cradle with a soft green leaf blanket inside. "That was MY spot," Flicker whispered. Her eyes stung, and her chest felt tight and heavy.
Flicker ran outside and sat on her favorite mossy branch. Glimmer Puff floated up beside her. "What's wrong?" Glimmer Puff asked softly. "Everything is changing," Flicker said. "Nobody sees me anymore. They only see HIM." A big tear rolled down her cheek. Glimmer Puff glowed a little brighter and stayed close.
"You know what helps when feelings get really big?" Glimmer Puff said. "Talking about them. Big feelings don't stay so big when you share them with someone who loves you." Flicker sniffled. "You think so?" "I know so," said Glimmer Puff. "Try telling your mom and dad how you feel."
So Flicker went inside. She took a deep breath. "Mom? Dad?" she said quietly. "I feel like nobody sees me anymore." Her dad knelt down and hugged her tight. "Oh, Flicker. We love you so much. We will always love you." Her mom kissed her head. "You are our first adventure, and that will never change."
Flicker's parents had an idea. They made a special plan. Every afternoon, while the baby napped, Flicker would have her very own adventure time — just for her. She could read, explore, or play with Glimmer Puff. "Everyone needs special time that is just theirs," her mom said. And that made Flicker feel a little lighter inside.
Days passed. Flicker still had her adventures with Glimmer Puff. She still climbed tall branches. She still swung on vines. And sometimes, she would tiptoe inside and peek at her baby brother sleeping in his tiny acorn cradle. He looked so small and peaceful. She started to wonder what he might be like when he grew up.
Then one evening, something magical happened. Flicker leaned over the cradle and whispered, "Hi there, little one. I'm your big sister." And her baby brother opened his eyes, looked right at her, and smiled. It was a tiny, wobbly, brand-new smile — and it was just for Flicker. Her heart felt so full she thought it might pop.
"Glimmer Puff," Flicker said that night, sitting on her favorite mossy branch under the stars. "I think being a big sister might be a really big adventure." "The biggest one yet," Glimmer Puff agreed, glowing softly. Flicker looked out at the golden lanterns swaying in the breeze. Some things had changed. But maybe — just maybe — the best part was still to come.
